Physiotherapy Assessment & Treatment
Your physiotherapy assessment starts with a chat so that I can get more information to form a picture of the condition that is troubling you, how it impacts on your life and what your rehabilitation goals are. Next I will perform a physical examination with the aim of identifying the structure/s that are causing the problem. Once we know what the problems are the treatment will commence. I combine skilled manual therapy during your session at the clinic with specific remedial excercises for you to do between sessions. The aim of physiotherapy is to not only help you feel better during your course of treatment but also to equip you with strategies you can use to help prevent relapse and also to remedy yourself in the event of a flare up in the future or if you have a chronic condition that cannot be fully resolved. The types of manual therapy you may experience in a physio session include: massage, joint mobilisations, fascial release, visceral mobilisation, scar massage, PNF stretching and dynamic joint releases. A course of treatment is usually required to work towards your rehabilitation goals.
Deep Tissue/ Sports/ Holistic/ Pregnancy Massage
Deep tissue is a type of massage uses deep pressure, effective stretches, advanced techniques to get into areas of muscular tension, trigger points and held muscular patterns. With sports massage it is also a deep and remedial treatment that is a great way to maintain and optimize your body for training and recovery from injury or heavy training sessions. If you want a slower and softer massage with rebalancing energy work, pulsing movements, scalp massage and releasing stretches then a holistic massage would be ideal. It aims to leave you feeling better inside and out. This type of treatment can be combined with deep tissue/ remedial massage also for total rejuvenation. Pregnancy massage is a great way to relieve the tension from your changing body. It is particularly helpful after 20 weeks although can be performed any time after your first trimester. Pregnancy massage also can help manage pelvic girdle pain if you have been experiencing that. Pregnancy massage is usually performed in side lying and long sitting, but if you would prefer to lay face down whilst I massage the back of your body during the treatment I do also have a special pregnancy massage cushion with a bump hole that will allow this.
Deep Colon Massage and Visceral Mobilisation
This treatment first uses gentle fascial release and visceral mobilisation to free up abdominal and pelvic adhesions that may be affecting your digestive function. Then deep kneading and sweeping massage is used over the colon area of abdomen to assist with breakdown of congested faecal matter and to stimulate peristalsis of the large intestine. This treatment is great for people with sluggish digestion and abdominal problems such as IBS. Visceral mobilisation is also suitable for addressing adhesions from abdominal surgical scars. You can complete the session in 30 minutes or if you prefer opt for a longer 45min or 60 min session. Usually a short course is reccomended of 4 sessions on a fortnightly basis. You will also be given information on homework self massage you can do to keep up the effects and self care in the longer term. *Please be aware that this treatment is not suitable for people with IUD’s, inflammatory bowel problems, hernias, intestinal masses, severe constipation that has not responded to enemas or strong laxatives and cannot be performed at any time during pregnancy. If you are unsure, please do contact me for advice.
